Tire Technology Expo 2016: Carbon black with narrow aggregate size distribution
Orion Engineered Carbons will highlight its newly developed carbon black EB 262 with tailored narrow aggregate size distribution. The company says that the new EB 262 improves wear performance in comparison to the widely used ASTM benchmark grade N134 by approximately 10%. Furthermore, the increase in dynamic stiffness while maintaining both elongation at break and loss factor on a comparable level, is unique and a good basis for the use of this carbon black in truck and bus tread compounds.
Orion says that the lower number of smaller aggregates favors a better carbon black macro and micro dispersion level during mixing. The impact of narrow aggregate size distribution on compound performance will be confirmed by in-rubber data, wear performance data in the lab, and tire testing. The company says that the EB 262 is the best carbon black grade to achieve a high level of wear performance for truck and bus tread compounds without negative impact on rolling resistance.
