U.S. based company Honeywell has opened its largest manufacturing facility for protective gloves in Nantong, China. Investment was US$15 million for this phase one project. The new facility has an estimated annual production capacity of more than 60 million pairs of protective gloves.
Honeywell Safety Protective Products (Nantong) Company Limited is located in Rudong, Nantong in Jiangsu Province. The facility will serve as a significant product development and production base to drive global growth in the company‘s protective glove segment.
Part of Honeywell Automation and Control Solutions (ACS), the Nantong plant will mainly produce a spectrum of protective gear such as polyurethane gloves, nitrile rubber gloves, gloves with PVC dots and knitted gloves, for use in the electronics, automobile, machinery processing, food processing and petrochemical sectors. „This new plant gives us a solid base to extend our research and innovation for China and the global market,“ said Li Ning, president, ACS Greater China. „The opening of the Nantong plant will lay a solid foundation for the growth of Honeywell‘s safety products in Greater China and globally.“
The Nantong plant will produce gloves featuring different protection levels to serve a variety of customer needs in Europe, America and Asia-Pacific and is Honeywell‘s only global dipped-glove production facility. Dipping glue enables gloves to better adapt to different working environments, which means providing stronger protection to workers.
The plant adopts the most advanced dipping glue control and spraying system that minimizes chemical residues, and is equipped with advanced environmental protection processing equipment to ensure zero emissions and zero pollution. In addition to dipped gloves production, some products use Spectra, a specialty fiber from Honeywell Performance Materials and Technologies, to enable gloves to reach higher cut-resistant level. Spectra fiber, which is pound-for-pound 15 times stronger than steel but light enough to float, is used in critical applications such as body armor, to strengthen ropes or as shields to protect windows and doors from hurricanes.
The facility will also house Honeywell‘s global protective glove R&D center to lead technological advancement in the protective glove industry. In the near future, the plant will introduce the development and production of other safety products, becoming an important safety products hub for Honeywell worldwide.
