Analyzing of Mixing Quality

New Aspects on the Evaluation of Mixing Quality by Analyzing the Substantial Homogeneity of Rubber Compounds using Laser Induced Breakdown Spectroscopy (LIBS)

The aim of this study is a comprehensive review of the mixing homogeneity of a batch obtained by using a discontinuous internal mixer mixing process. The evaluation of mixing quality is done, firstly, by practice-tested analysis of filler dispersion by means of reflectedlight microscopy. In addition, verification is provided for the suitability of the Laser […] more...

Laser Flash Analysis

Determination of the Thermal Diffusivity and Thermal Conductivity on Rubbers by means of Light/Laser Flash Analysis (LFA)

In order to get information about the heat transfer in materials, researchers and engineers have to select from a variety of test methods the most suitable one to characterize the thermophysical properties of substances and configurations of interest. For many material classes including polymers, the flash technique is an ideal choice to master these tasks. […] more...

Thermo-oxidative Ageing of ma- gnetic Composites based on NBR

Thermo-oxidative Ageing of magnetic Composites based on NBR

Rubber magnetic composites were prepared by incorporation of magnetically soft manganese-zinc ferrite H40 and metallic ferrosilicon powder FeSi into rubber matrix based on NBR. The aim was to investigate the influence of ferrite content on physical-mechanical properties and electromagnetic smog shielding efficiency of prepared rubber composites before and after thermo-oxidative ageing performed in air atmosphere. […] more...

Review: Ageing of Rubber

Environmental Ageing of Elastomers – the Duality of Crosslinking and Chain Scissions

This review paper describes the duality between chain breaking and crosslinking reactions which possibly occurs during the ageing of most elastomers. The phenomenon occurs both on crude/not cured rubbers and on fully crosslinked rubbers and is much more important than in other polymer families. As the analytical methods to measure chain scissions are considered to […] more...

Influence of Regeneration Methods of used Rubber Goods made of the Butyl Rubber cured with Phenol-Formaldehyde resin on the Properties of uncured and cured Compounds of Butyl Rubber

The aim was to modify butyl rubber (IIR) with the regenerated rubber granules (GRC-IIR) obtained from used pulverised general rubber goods made of IIR cured with phenol-formaldehyde resin. It was found that thermo-mechanical and mechano-chemical treatment of GRC-IIR is successful and such modified GRC-IIR can be used as a component of mixes containing butyl rubber. more...

Track & Trace

Tire Technology Expo 2016: New QR Code Tire ID Solution

Engraving 2-D QR codes on tire sidewalls is an emerging method for tracking and retrieving information about tires, especially in relation to the US Department of Transport (DoT) marking requirement. Cognex can read QR codes directly marked on the sidewalls of tires. The process produces a permanent, recessed code on the rubber surface that withstands wear and tear and can be easily read by industrial-grade, image-based barcode readers, offering advantages to manufacturers, distributors, retailers, and customers at all stages of the life cycle of the tire. more...

Effect of Crosslink Type on the Time-Dependent Tearing – Part I. Carbon Black Filled SBR Vulcanizates

The tear state and tear energy have been investigated in a series of carbon black-filled SBR vulcanizates having the same crosslink densities but different types of crosslink structures. It was found that there are two types of tear behaviours associated with SBR rubber, i. e., stable and unstable tearing which are controlled by the viscoelastic […] more...

Cross-linking of Elastomers

The Comparison of Radiation and a Peroxide Crosslinking of Elastomers

Radiation crosslinking of elastomers is an interesting example of a modification of polymers by means of ionizing radiation. The practical significance of crosslinking can be connected to traditional (using peroxides) with radiation treatment. The aim of this study was to describe the phenomenon of mixed radiation/peroxide and peroxide/radiation crosslinking thermoplastic elastomers Engage 8200 [1, 2, 3]. more...

Mechanical Properties of Elastomers

Optimisation of nonlinear Material Parameter in uniaxial Compression Tests of Elastomer Specimen involving Friction

The determination of mechanical material parameters of elastomers is not easily possible. This is due to the fact that mechanical properties strongly depend on the composition of the underlying rubber compound and its manufacturing process. more...
