For Asahi Kasei, S-SBR operations are a key strategic business for global development with an emphasis on expansion in automotive applications. Asahi Kasei has successfully achieved a high-level balance of braking performance and fuel efficiency while also improving abrasion resistance and handling stability characteristics, mainly with the continuous polymerization process. S-SBR made with technology developed by Asahi Kasei enjoys a strong reputation among tire manufacturers around the world as an optimal material for tires.
Strategy for Eco Tires
Solution-SBR, developed with proprietary functionalisation, now brings significant improvement to the balance between fuel efficiency, wet grip and wear resistance of high-performance eco-tire treads with a 5th generation overall improved tire performance. New S-SBR grades will be introduced and, according to Asahi Kasei’s philosohy „Creating for Tomorrow“, a new strategy for eco tires will be presented at this year’s tire technology expo in Hannover, February 20 – 22. Asahi Kasei will exhibit at stand C342. A special emphasis will be laid on the relationship between polymer structure and performance in vulcanised compounds.
The company currently produces and has S-SBR plants in Japan (Kanagawa and Oita prefectures) and Singapore. The Singapore plant began operation in 2013 and produces the latest high-performance grades. To meet further demand growth and satisfy customer needs, Asahi Kasei reinforces it‘s supply capability by expanding both of the S-SBR lines in Singapore by a combined 30,000 tons/year, raising total capacity in Singapore to 130,000 tons/year. They will continue to expand production capacity while advancing development of greater product performance in order to solidify our world-leading position in this field. Further expansion of production capacities is planned. At the same time g the development of higher product performance will be advanced in order to consolidate the company‘s global leadership in this area.
