The acoustic resonance frequency of elastomer components correlates strongly with the degree of cross-linking. With a test rig developed at the IKV, the resonance frequency of small sheets of rubber can be measured in seconds.

The vulcanization process has a significant influence on the quality of rubber products. The heater output and duration must be selected in such a way that the cross-linking reaction is completed in the entire cross-section without reversion setting in. The degree of cross-linking has been established as a parameter for describing network they formed. It determines a large part of the product properties, such as chemical resistance and mechanical properties.
