Rubber compounds are produced in a discontinuously working internal mixer with the addition of components such as rubber, fillers and other additives. A key factor to achieve a high compound quality is the dispersion of the filler. The aim of this study is to determine the dispersion as a function of the polymer and carbon black type.

Rubber compounds are almost completely produced in a discontinuously working internal mixer. This offers, for example, the advantages of high flexibility and the ability to accept a variety of different dosing components (bales, powder, oil, etc.). Due to an insufficient understanding of processing and materials, the material potential is often not fully exploited in the production of elastomer products and elastomer components may be oversized.
