Tires are important for people’s daily life and industry. After expiration of their useful life, a very large number of scrap tires are generated each year. Over 270 million scrap tires are generated in the United States every year and more than 300 million scrap tires are currently stock piled up all over the country. The scrap tires can lead to serious problems. They can cause fire dangers and provide nests for many kinds of pests creating health and environmental problems. Therefore, how to properly deal with these scrap tires becomes an increasingly important public issue, especially at the present time emphasizing the environmental concerns.
